Trust is a major theme throughout the Bible. God desires for us to fully trust in Him and His promises. Here is an overview of some key Bible verses and passages about trusting God:
Trusting in God’s Sovereignty and Control
Proverbs 3:5-6 instructs us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” God is sovereign over all things and we can trust His perfect plan and timing in our lives.
Psalm 37:3-7 calls us to “Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.” As we trust God, He will guide our steps and work out His purposes.
Isaiah 26:4 affirms, “Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.” God is eternal, all-powerful and unchanging. He is worthy of our continual trust and confidence.
Trusting in God’s Faithfulness and Unfailing Love
Lamentations 3:22-23 declares, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” God’s love and mercy for us is relentless. He is always faithful to His promises.
Psalm 13:5 says, “But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.” Despite despair, we can fully trust God’s unfailing, steadfast love.
Psalm 52:8 proclaims, “But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God. I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever.” God’s love endures for all eternity. We can cling to His love.
Trusting God in Difficult Times
Proverbs 3:11-12 reminds us, “My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.” We can trust God’s purposes even in discipline and suffering, knowing He loves us as a perfect Father.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 encourages, “So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.” Our trials are temporary, but their spiritual fruits are of eternal value. We can trust God’s work during hardships.
Job 13:15 declares, “Though he slay me, I will hope in him; yet I will argue my ways to his face.” Despite intense trials, even death, Job resolves to maintain hope and trust in the Lord. We can cling to trusting God amidst any circumstance.
Trusting God with Our Fears and Worries
Philippians 4:6-7 instructs us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Rather than being consumed by worry, we can fully trust every concern to God in prayer.
Psalm 34:4 proclaims, “I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.” God promises to hear us and deliver us when we seek Him in the midst of our fears.
Isaiah 41:10 declares, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” We do not need to yield to fear because God promises His comfort and strength when we trust Him.
Trusting God with Our Finances and Possessions
1 Timothy 6:17 instructs, “As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.” Our trust and contentment should be in God, not earthly wealth which is uncertain.
Matthew 6:25-27 exhorts us, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?” God cares for birds and flowers; we can fully trust Him to provide for us.
Proverbs 11:28 warns, “Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf.” Trusting in money over God leads to downfall. We flourish when trusting God alone.
Trusting God with Our Children
Psalm 127:3 proclaims, “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.” Children are a blessing from God. We can trust His purposes for our families.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” This includes trusting God with priorities for raising children. His wisdom surpasses our own.

Trusting God with Important Decisions
Proverbs 3:5-6 instructs, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” We are called to trust in God’s guidance and discernment at every decision point, rather than our own limited perspective.
Psalm 25:12-13 says, “Who is the man who fears the Lord? Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose. His soul shall abide in well-being, and his offspring shall inherit the land.” As we reverence God, He promises to guide us in choosing His path which leads to blessing.
Proverbs 16:3 declares, “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” Entrusting our plans to God allows Him to guide and establish our steps according to His will.
Trusting God with the Salvation of Others
1 Timothy 2:3-4 proclaims, “This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” We can trust that God passionately desires all people to know Him. Our role is to faithfully trust and cooperate with His heart for the lost.
2 Peter 3:9 affirms, “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” God patiently holds back judgment because He longs for more people to repent. We can trust His heart and timing to save.

Habakkuk 3:17-19 says, “Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. God, the Lord, is my strength.” Even amidst complete catastrophe and loss, the prophet resolves to rejoice in God his Savior. His trust remains unshakeable.
Romans 8:28 promises, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” No matter our situation, if we love God, we can trust His promise to ultimately work everything for our good according to His wise, loving purpose.
In summary, the Bible calls us to trust fully in God and His sovereignty, love, faithfulness, and guidance. Though circumstances may be difficult, uncertain, or fearful, we can firmly trust He knows what is best and He will care for us. As we entrust every part of our lives to Him, He grants peace that surpasses understanding. God is eternally worthy of our complete trust.
